THREE REASONS TO PUT OTHERS FIRST 1. The Pleasure Of God. "So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure. 2. The Good Of Society. Do all things without grumbling or disputing; so that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world. 3. The Day Of Christ. Holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I will have reason to glory because I did not run in vain nor toil in vain. But even if I am being poured out as a drink offering upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I rejoice and share my joy with you all. You too, I urge you, rejoice in the same way and share your joy with me." Some Questions To Consider And Discuss: 1. What are you doing currently to "work out your salvation?" Do you think you tend to take on too much responsibility for your spiritual life or not enough? Are you over active or too passive? 2. Would most people be more likely to describe you as a grumbler or an encourager? A critic or a cheerleader? A gossip or as someone who never has anything bad to say about anyone? If people knew what you were thinking, how would they describe you? 3. If you lived for the day when you will meet Jesus face to face, how might your day to day behavior change? What will be important to you on that day which might not seem as important now? |
