At Creekside, we want to lay a solid
foundation of biblical truth that kids will continue to build on as they
mature. We believe that a child with a solid foundation should possess
the following skills:
●
They should know the basic storyline of the Bible and understand the
chronology of events from Genesis to Revelation.
●
They should know the historical context of
Biblical events.
●
They should understand and be able to
clearly explain salvation.
●
They should understand basic theological
concepts including the Trinity, the character of God, and the history
and overview of the Bible.
●
They should be able to begin applying
biblical concepts to life situations.
●
They should be able to practice the
spiritual disciplines of praying, studying their Bibles, and sharing
their faith.
When builders lay a foundation, they follow three primary steps: they
prepare the ground, construct the forms of the foundation, and pour
mortar into the forms. Our curriculum also follows three steps in laying
a biblical foundation:
PRESCHOOL: PREPARING THE GROUND
In preschool, we focus on preparing the ground. We introduce kids to
twenty attributes of God using eighty different Bible stories. This
familiarizes kids with God and the Bible and prepares them for K-5th
grade, where they will study God’s character and the Bible in greater
depth.
K-3RD GRADE: CONSTRUCTING THE FORMS
In K-3rd grade, we take kids through the entire Bible in four years. By
the end of this time, they should understand the basic story of the
Bible and chronology of events, as well as have a growing understanding
of the character of God. This provides a framework for the more
abstract concepts they will discover in 4th and 5th grade.
4TH-5TH GRADE: POURING THE MORTAR
By the time kids reach 4th grade, they should have a solid understanding
of the Bible, which will enable them to understand themes such as
salvation, lordship, worship, Bible study, and prayer.
